This year, a party chairman of the CDA in Amsterdam proposed to support the culture with an amount of approximately 50 million euros by auctioning the work "As I Opened Fire" (1964) by Roy Lichtenstein from the collection of the Stedelijk Museum.
He is right; if all art should be pleasant (or "interesting to him"), then that work can be uncollected. The core of art is that art is not interested in art reception. Art consists of dead things and ideas that can take the viewer to a higher level, or not. That is the power of art that cuts through everything and everyone.
The exhibition 'Art is Rattatatting!' shows that art does not necessarily has to be 'pleasant'. On the contrary, it looks at and questions the world around us.
