On GalleryViewer, you can find a selection of exhibitions that are currently on view in galleries across the Netherlands and Belgium. Here are 8 exhibitions to see in Rotterdam right now.
Until 18 April, Frank Taal Galerie presents two simultaneous solo exhibitions featuring Isabelle Borges and Zoë d’Hont. Each artist approaches space and our experience of it in a distinct way. Borges uses colour and geometry to reveal the dynamics of in-between spaces, while d’Hont works with textiles and sound to create a more subdued, sensory exploration of place. Contour Gallery presents ‘The Way of Water’ until 26 April, with work by Le Nghi Teng and Kyra ten Brink. Drawing on Taoist principles, Teng works with water and ink, inviting the viewer's reflection on letting go and moving with the flow. Ten Brink explores the intimate relationship we build with ourselves in her portraits, as well as a path towards inner connection.
At Studio Seine, you can see the exhibition ‘Colour doesn’t Hurt’ by Esmee Seebregts (until 30 May). Colour takes centre stage in her work, both as a visual experience and as a carrier of cultural and emotional meaning. Seebregts examines how we unconsciously associate colours with ideas and how these interpretations are shaped. Using self-made paint and vivid pigments, she creates intense fields of colour that confront the viewer with these associations.
NL=US Art presents ‘Either Way’ by Martijn Schuppers and Jan Maarten Voskuil until 26 April. The exhibition shows how both artists have moved away from traditional painting. Schuppers by manipulating the paint itself and Voskuil by transforming the canvas and stretcher into spatial constructions.
Christian Ouwens Gallery features ‘Miraculous Visions’ by James Aldridge until 2 May. In large, layered paintings, he combines realistic animals with abstract and symbolic elements to explore the relationship between humans and nature. At Root Gallery, you get a chance to see the group exhibition ‘Where Light Lands’ (until 23 May), featuring work by Lisette Schumacher, Jeske Haak, Donald Schenkel and guest artist Anna Oudhof. The presentation examines how material, light and space interact, where paintings and sculptures subtly shifting in character throughout the day.
Until 26 April, Gallery Untitled in Rotterdam features the exhibition ‘Verzwinden’ by Driessens & van den Baar. Working with wool felt developed using UV light, the artists visualise the impact of human actions on nature and the living environment, drawing the viewer in through colour and material before revealing a critical layer.
