Arne Quinze is a Belgian (Ghent, °71) artist based in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium.
Arne Quinze's work ranges from small drawings and paintings to medium-sized sculptures to massive installations. His early career in the 1980s was as a graffiti artist, where he always questioned the role of our cities and the quest to turn cities into open-air museums. His work quickly evolved from Street Art to Public Art with recurring themes of social interaction, urbanisation and diversity.
Arne Quinze's sculptures are created after numerous personal encounters with the unbridled beauty of nature. They symbolise his reflection on the contemporary growing disparity between the diversity of nature and the constant expansion of monotonous cities. The result of the works is a game of attraction and repulsion that shapes organic shapes and electric bright colours. At first glance, they appear fragile, but like nature, they will sustain a powerful dialogue with their surroundings.
His unconventional public installations have challenged perceptions in the urban centres of Belgium, Germany, France, Lebanon, China, Brazil and the US, among others.
Recent work is the light sculpture called 'Oasis' that Quinze created on the occasion of the second edition of the Noor Riyadh festival in the middle of the desert in Saudi Arabia.
