Interview with Artist James Aldridge on his show Miraculous Visions

During the art fair Art Rotterdam, the city of Rotterdam also hosts several exciting exhibitions. One of these is Miraculous Visions at Christian Ouwens Gallery, which presents works by James Aldridge (°1971). Aldridge is a British artist who has lived and worked in Sweden for several years, and this environment clearly translates seamlessly into his artistic practice.

In the twilight everything changes. Colours shift, shapes fade, and familiar images suddenly reveal themselves to be something else entirely. The mysterious exhibition 'Nature After Dark' in Christian Ouwens Gallery in Rotterdam focuses on that tipping point: the moment when daylight disappears and nature reveals another, sometimes unpredictable face. The exhibition will be on view until 6 September 2025.

Nature and heavy metal in the work of James Aldridge

From 2 March, Christian Ouwens Gallery in Rotterdam will present a solo exhibition of James Aldridge. The oeuvre of the British artist is fueled by a broad range of interests: from natural history field guides and picturesque French wallpaper from the nineteenth century to Renaissance landscapes, the watercolours of John James Audubon and the energy of heavy metal music.

Market position

James Aldridge received his bachelor's degree in Fine Art (Painting) from Manchester Metropolitan University (1990-93) and his master's degree in Fine Art (Painting) from the Royal College of Art in London (1993-95). He currently lives and works in Småland, Sweden, in the middle of the woods.
