Francine Mendelaar has been the director of Fonds Kwadraat since 2007. The Fund provides interest-free loans to visual artists, designers, fashion designers and architects for artistic projects and productions, such as an exhibition or presentation, a publication, a prototype, or a first series of a product. Since its inception in 1971, the Fund has issued no less than 2,510 loans for a total amount of more than nine million euros. That's quite something. Francine is the driving force behind this organization and with her communication skills and great commitment to the artists, she makes it easy for anyone to apply for a loan and, if possible, to have it granted.
“The coming May and summer holidays, we will all be staying at home. No city trips, no holidays to Bali or Japan, no trips to the South of France by car and not even a break on the island of Texel or at the Veluwe. We relax with games, books, films, series and of course with art. Art has everything to offer. One can dream away, fantasize or think deeply. Art brings new life to your home. And if you are housed small, or if you have many windows or bookcases and little wall space? Then there are plenty of special works of art for which there is always room. Small is beautiful."
