Maria Roosen

Maria Roosen 1957

Lives in Arnhem. Works in Arnhem.
Represented by:

Galerie Fons Welters

Maria Roosen produces pen drawings, watercolour painting and sculptures. Roosen uses various materials - wood, gold leaf, wool - and since 1988 she frequently uses glass. Growth, flowering and development are dominant themes in her oeuvre, which is also evident from the way Roosen leaves things to the creative process. Roosen looks for a form of fluidity in her work. Roosen draws and designs her sculptures herself, but leaves the execution to third parties, such as glassblowing, if necessary. She does not consider this to be a hindrance, but rather as a process that gives her freedom: "This allows me to ask for things that I otherwise would never be able to do myself." She mainly works with glass and watercolor, both fluid forms that eventually take on a fixed form by a process of cooling or drying. Female forms and curves, breasts and bellies all find a place in her work, but bears, sausages and sperm are also recognizable.
