BLOOMING
CURATED BY MARTIN KIEFER*
FORMER CURATOR FOR CONTEMPORARY ART AT THE MUSÉE DU LOUVRE
GRAND OPENING: 10 APRIL, 18.30 - 21H in Zurich
After two years of preparation, the Bildhalle team is delighted to open the large group exhibition BLOOMING. It spans both spaces in Zurich and combines paintings, drawings and sculptures by the renowned Belgian artist Arne Quinze with works by twelve photographic artists around the theme of “blooming”.
Known for his monumental installations around the world, in this exhibition Arne Quinze presents drawings alongside the photographs of the duo Albarrán Cabrera, sculptures resonating with the images of Thirza Schaap, and pictorial responses to the works of Paul Cupido and Sandro Diener in the form of diptychs. It is in the floral universe that he meets Simone Kappeler, Cig Harvey, Philipp Keel, Ilona Langbroek, Thomas Hoepker, and René Groebli. Two exciting representatives of the French photographic scene, François Halard and Laurent Champoussin complement the works of the ten photographers from Bildhalle.
Spring is said to bring love, joie de vivre, and renewal – May BLOOMING bring all this, too, but above all, be an ode to beauty.
*Art historian, curator, and museum guide, Martin Kiefer is particularly interested in the connections between classical and contemporary art. Notably, he was responsible for overseeing the contemporary art mission at the Louvre from 2014 to 2021 and continues today to engage in curatorial activities as well as teaching within the framework of artistic immersion projects. Kiefer writes texts for exhibition catalogues, artists’ publications, and regularly gives lectures.
