Harry Markusse (Voorburg - 1990) paints. He uses tight geometric planes and lines, which he often uses with 'masking tape'.
During the work, within the previously chosen, consciously summary concept, challenges and choices for painterly solutions arise.
By mirroring, tilting, shifting, repeating shapes and partly overpainting, a layered image is created with violent color contrasts (or sometimes only subtle tones) in which the viewer's eye seeks a hold between shape / residual shape, front / rear, movement / counter-movement. and flat / spatial.
Upon closer inspection, the, at first glance, razor-sharp surfaces appear to contain fringes here and there. These imperfections provide extra tension in the image and also make the tactile, the manual visible.
When examining the boundaries and possibilities of space suggestion versus literal space, works can arise that, detached from the frame, become objects.
