Rob Scholte studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam from 1977 to 1982, where he met contemporaries such as Maarten van de Ploeg (alias Maarten Ploeg) and Peter Klashorst. Together they presented themselves as the 'New Wilden'. He was part of the artists' collective Warmoesstraat 139. Scholte had his studio in Laurierstraat, where The Living Room gallery was located until 1993.
