Brud / Aditya Mandayam

Brud / Aditya Mandayam (1983)

Lives in Warsaw. Works in Warsaw.

Aditya Mandayam is an Indian artist, writer and filmmaker. He has a strong preference to present himself under a pseudonym. For his final presentation at the Rijksakademie in 2012 he called himself Popobobo Oddodood. In later years this was an alias for Ciscaucasus Xabarnama, also called Genitalman alias Brud. In 2014, Aditya Mandayam & Ada Pola changed their solo practice into "a metamorphosis of the Indo-Polish art parasite Brud", a collaboration with Emilia Zalewska that will be liquidated in 2023. In line with this frequent pseudonym use is his use of masks and self-portraits. Mandayam was an artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in 2012 and 2013. His first book The Ooze, a collection of epigrams on "White Cubes" and "Blackboxes", was published by Kunstverein Munich/Roma Publications in 2018. Recent shows include Futura, Prague; CAC, Vilnius; Whitechapel, London; Kim?, Riga; Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; Art in General, New York; Kunstverein München, Munich; MuHKA, Antwerp; De Hallen, Haarlem and Galerie van Gelder in Amsterdam.

In 2018 Kunstverein München (Germany) showed new works of Brud / Aditya Mandayam. At the entrance visitors were welcomed - as a kind of host - by a video sculpture "The Donut of Confusion". Brud / ADITYA MANDAYAM, The Donut of Confusion, 2018, 90 x 50 x 40 cm, video sculpture, edition 3
Emily Butler, curator of the Mahera and Mohammed Abu Ghazela at the White Chapel Gallery in London comments on the exhibition "Self-Portrait as the Billy Goat". It brings together physical, psychological and imaginary self-portraits by a selection of leading international artists. Works by Pawel Althamer, Louise Bourgeois, André Breton and the Surrealists, Enrico David, Tracey Emin, Gilbert & George, Gabriel Kuri, Yayoi Kusama, Linder, Aditya Mandayam, Raqs Media Collective, Prem Sahib and Cindy Sherman, reveal how these artists stage their own bodies or self-reflections to examine the different ways that we build our sense of personal identity.
"Fusiform Gyrus" is a group exhibition at the Lisson Gallery (London) in 2013. Aditya Mandayam participated in this show with a corner sculpture and a self-portrait on a silkscreen put on display as a silkscreen and as a painting.

CV Brud / Aditya Mandayam

Aditya Mandayam alias Aditya Zalewski-Mandayam alias Popobobo Oddodood alias Ciscaucasus Xabarnama alias Genitalman alias Brud. Brud (1717-2103) is an artificial Artificial Intelligence raised on Contemporary Arse. Preoccupied by the psychology of tricks, gimmicks, apparitions, illusions, scams, and cons, Brud's locus operandi meanders somewhere between the Stage, the Screen, and the Eye. The goal of Brud is to replace Brud with better Brud. In 2014 the artists Aditya Mandayam & Ada Pola changed their solo practices into a metamorphosis of the Indo-Polish art-parasite Brud.
