Rick van der Klooster (b. 1994) is a Dutch visual artist whose work explores themes of grief, memory, and the emotional resonance of landscapes. His recent series "Between the Mountain and the River" culminates in the 2025 artist book of the same name, created at the St. Joost School of Art and Design, where he also earned his BA in Photography in 2021. Rooted in personal experience, the project traces his return to the mountains five years after the death of his mother, using light and nature as metaphors for loss and quiet transformation.
Van der Klooster’s education includes a Graphic Design degree from GLR Rotterdam (2016), an exchange at SFG:BB in Biel/Bienne (2015), and a minor in Arts and Urbanism at AKV|St. Joost (2018). He completed an internship with photographer Jaap Scheeren the same year, an experience that continues to inform his poetic, conceptual approach to photography.
