The exhibition "Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain"during Art Island Amsterdam is a poetic exploration of nature’s fragile illusions, staged on the historic Forteiland IJmuiden. Featuring works by Rick van der Klooster, Joris Veltman, Olphaert den Otter, and Jildau Nijboer, the exhibition challenges our perceptions of mountains, clouds, and climate through light, land, air, and perception. Van der Klooster’s hyperreal mountain images blur the line between reality and simulation, while Veltman reveals the artificial interventions that maintain the myth of seasonal stability. Den Otter’s delicate cloudscapes expose human impact in subtle contrails, and Nijboer’s installations evoke shifting perceptions between abstraction and landscape. Together, they invite reflection on the impermanence beneath nature’s seemingly timeless façade and our complex role in shaping it.
