The long-term research by Sarah Pichlkostner is focused on the representation of time, space, self-optimization, productivity, self-reflection and empathy created by objects. Through a deep study of the behaviour of materials, that combines effortless contemporary methods with laborious and outmoded fabrication techniques, Pichlkostner reflects on the social behaviour of and towards objects. A contrasting aesthetics come to life combining softness and fragility with sharpness and edginess.

Dunne draad met karakter
De sculpturen zijn specifiek op de afmetingen van de ruimte afgestemd. Soms lijken ze ook direct op de ruimte geinspireerd te zijn. Een ruitvormige vorm aan het plafond doet denken aan de rails van de lichtarmaturen die daar hangen. De beelden zijn afstandelijk en hightech, maar ook liefdevol gemaakt en door de gebogen vormen hebben ze onmiskenbaar een eigen karakter.

..Dan zie ik ook , met dat vlietende geluid in mijn oren, dat die buigzame buisjes van glas ook geleidingen van licht zijn. Zo beschrijven ze onbeschrijfelijk bevende groeisels die glinsteren zoals in het herfstige zonlicht tussen takken spinnenwebben hangen. Als wij kijken zoeken we vergelijkingen. Een spinnenweb is een teer weefsel dat uit de omstandigheden van de plek zomaar gegroeid is. De vergelijking is geen uitleg van de vormen die Sarah Pichlkostner tot ontplooiing laat komen - hooguit een atmosferische aanduiding van het tastende proces van fragiele vormwording in dit wek zoals ik het zie. Ze zoekt vormen in zwevende beweging, maar vermijdt figuren omdat die nog te definitief zijn.

Sarah Pichlkostner (1988, Salzburg, AT) lives and works in Vienna and London. In 2014 Pichlkostner has received the prestigious grant of De Ateliers in Amsterdam. In 2017, she had solo shows at Josh Lilley Gallery in London, Galerie Hubert Winter in Vienna and De Ketelfactory in Schiedam. Her work has been presented in one-artist booth at Artissima Fair in Turin and Vienna Contemporary fair (both 2017) and FIAC in Paris (2015). Furthermore, in 2019 she will be a resident at ISCP New York, supported by Cultural Ministry of Austria.
