An exhibition of four artists in different disciplines from figuration to abstraction.
The ‘Hopper Essence’ series by photographer Andrés Gallego (ES-1983) is a series of photographs based on the work of Edward Hopper (USA, 1882-1967). The views from the windows have been transferred to canvas by the artist himself with acrylic paint, as has the scenography, which he has reproduced on a true scale. The painting process is here united in one hand with the ephemeral photo opportunity. The subjective interpretation of the one is combined with the apparently objective impression of the other, the paradox of which is visibly present.
The latest works by Bas Wiegmink (NL-1977) show even more what his painting is capable of. Not only have the artifacts taken on more abstract forms, but nature also seems to have become even more lush. Many works lean towards a certain part of the spectrum, but the combination of colours is abundant throughout. Infinitely thin paint lines adorn the canvas next to, over and behind the larger paint surfaces, in order to achieve a special depth effect.
Sanne Terweij (NL-1984) uses the basic materials copper, brass and aluminum to work with countless chemical processes and interventions. Pigments and chemicals have a short or long-term effect on the pure metal. Individual pieces are then translated into her mental and emotional ‘landscapes’. This results in a variety of textures and colours that stimulate the imagination.
Paintings by Philippe van Gele (BE-1979) radiate a fantastic energy. His myriads of colour compositions each time produce a new tranquil abstraction of actually existing places on earth. It is his fantasy about what those distant landscapes, sometimes with puzzling names, might look like. With free associations he creates the aesthetic that needs to be seen.
