During Ballroom Project, Bradwolff & Partners will show the work of Eva-Fiore Kovacovsky and herman de vries from May 18-21. Ballroom Project will be organized during the upcoming Antwerp Art Weekend (18 - 21 May 2023). The project will take place in Borgerhub, the former courthouse of Borgerhout. Ilse Roosens, curator of Ballroom project selected the works of de vries and Kovacovsky whose works both enter into an intimate relationship with nature.
Eva-Fiore Kovacovsky shows her photograms from the series "Jackotype," large cyanotypes she made in Sri Lanka (2017). Prints of fruits, branches, seeds and the leaves of the jackfruit on large pieces of fabric hang freely in the space as installations. By printing the materials directly, Kovacovsky stays as close as possible to nature itself. The intimacy it evokes unlocks a vast world of imagination.
The work of herman de vries is at least as direct. When you walk around a bustling city and enter a room where his work hangs, you feel the tranquility of nature. His choice of material, form and execution is pure and like nature itself. Even in a house in the city, the silence of nature can be found by looking at de vries' work.
Eva-Fiore Kovacovsky is an artist based in Berlin. She grew up in nature with forest and inhabitants as her kin. Using cultural, scientific and personal narratives, she works with plants and experiments with analog photography. Her artist book Feeding on Light will be published by ROMA/NL this summer. She has been running Between Us and Nature - A Reading Club with Sina Ribak since 2017. She has been featured solo at Kunstfort Vijfhuizen/NL and Aargauer Kunsthaus/CH, among others, and group exhibitions at Bärenzwinger/DE, Colomboscope/LK, C/O Berlin/DE, Kunsthall Stavanger/NO and Kunsthalle Basel/CH. Kovacovsky received her bachelor's degree from the Rietveld Academy/NL. She has given guest lectures at Hochschule für Design Karlsruhe/DE, Rietveld Academie/NL, KASK/BE and KaE Stipendium-HKU/NL, among others.
herman de vries was born in Alkmaar in 1931 and since the 1950s has been working on a completely personal, poetic oeuvre in which nature is central. de vries represented the Netherlands at the Venice Biennale (2015). The emphasis in de vries's work is on the disturbed relationship between man and nature, as a result of which, according to him, an important source of knowledge is in danger of being lost. Exhibitions of his work were on view in the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam and the Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo. His work can be found in museum collections around the world.
