Fold #2 by Ruta Butkute explores the tension between materiality and movement. The sculpture combines a whimsical, dynamic metal line that acts as a ‘drawing in space’ with a solid ceramic element. This interplay of light and heavy, fluid and firm evokes associations with transformation and the search for balance between strength and vulnerability.
As is often the case in Butkute’s work, the relationship between object, body, and space is central. The viewer is invited not only to look but also to engage with the work – a silent choreography between object and observer.
In Fold #2, the boundary between the object and the surrounding space blurs. Butkute highlights the beauty of change and embraces imperfection as an essential part of her art.
