Bound (2024) by Ruta Butkutė is a circular porcelain sculpture with a diameter of 50 cm. The piece evokes the beauty of natural sedimentation processes. The soft, concentric rings in the porcelain resemble the layers of deposition that gradually form in nature through the passage of time and change. It feels like a fragile snapshot of layering and transformation, as though nature itself has shaped the material.
With this work, Butkutė invites us to pause and reflect on the invisible processes that take place in nature, encouraging contemplation of the cycle of time and the transience of existence. The delicate textures and subtle colors underscore the fragility and impermanence of the natural world, giving the piece a contemplative and poetic quality.
