LILY VAN DER STOKKER, Saai, 1993-1994
A drawing that is simple and also called 'Boring' may indeed be a boring drawing, but Lily van der Stokker often makes a difference in the details. In addition to the word 'boring' and at the bottom left and right, she has very lightly added a few frills, giving a barely visible twist to the work. Quite disarming and radical.
This is more than a drawing....
From April 29 - September 18, 2022, an extensive solo exhibition by Lily van der Stokker can be seen at the Camden Art Center in London, where she is advertised as 'One of the Netherlands' most celebrated contemporary artists'. At the same time, an autobiographical book "How I Went to New York 1983-1992" is published with stories from the 1980s about her time in New York when she had her Stokker Stikker Gallery in the East Village.
