Wjm Kok occupies a special place in painting. He is one of the very few Dutch artists who maintains the monochrome as an important part of his oeuvre, that is in the broadest sense. He uses paint on canvas, but does not shy away from using table tops, tarpaulins, removal blankets mounted on stretchers or perfumes on unprimed linen to make monochromes.
Wjm Kok describes 'Grey Monochrome' (series of 12) as a series. He wants to emphasize that the works differ from each other molecularly and, as here, visibly in detail.
