Part of a larger ongoing series of bas-reliefs started in 2016, Bathroom in Oloron-Sainte-Marie (to Jean-Baptiste and Simone) is a representation and homage to the bathroom built by my grandfather in the 70's in his house in Oloron-Sainte-Marie (South West of France).
Produced from pictures taken with my cellphone of my everyday life and intimate moments and situations, these bas-reliefs have both the value of personal memory and souvenirs, but also of clichés which in French both means a stereotype, a déjà-vu but also the action of taking photographs. Even though these bas-reliefs are inspired by a subjective and individual point of view they speak of an impersonal dimension but also of a collective memory.
These paintings in relief are like overflowing images, inflated pictures trying to get out of their state of flat images. As if two-dimensional images weren't enough for an accurate and proper illustration of the world and it's realities.
