Introduction.
The paintings titled 'Off Color' by Wjm Kok are part of a large series of works in various formats, ranging from 10 to 90 cm high or wide. The colours come about by squeezing ad randomly a number of dabs of paint straight from a tube. Once mixed, the final color emerges as a monochrome on canvas.
The price of these monochromes is a conceptual part of the work. The apparent contradiction between a large group of works and the uniqueness of each painting is bridged by linking the price setting to the greatest length of each painting. In steps of 10 centimetres this amounts to the following pricing:
