LILY VAN DER STOKKER, Ger van Elk, 2026
In 1985, Rudi Fuchs gained international fame as organizer of Documenta 7 in Kassel for which he invited both Ger and Ria van Elk (alias Maria van Elk). The invitation for the latter was withdrawn by Fuchs after Ger van Elk complained strongly about having ‘two Van Elks’ in one and the same Dokumenta. Ger van Elk threatened not to participate.
This work "Ger van Elk" is part of a series of 'Mail art', which consists mainly of smaller works and which LvdS started making this year. This painting is presented at Art Island 2026 starting Friday 22 of May, together with other brand new works of Frederique Jonker, David Kloosterboer, Bert McLean, Salim Bayri and Kimball Gunnar Holth at booth 01.
