Albarrán Cabrera bestaat uit het duo Anna Cabrera (1969, Sevilla) en Angel Albarrán (1969, Barcelona).

De overkoepelende vraag in het werk van Albarrán Cabrera is hoe beelden individuele herinneringen bij de kijker kunnen triggeren, afhankelijk van hun sociale en culturele achtergrond.

Voor Albarrán Cabrera is fotografie een middel om complexe onderwerpen en de relatie tussen deze concepten uit te leggen zonder taalkunde te gebruiken, wat de zaken nog ingewikkelder kan maken. Zoals het spreekwoord zegt; een foto zegt echt meer dan duizend woorden.

“Er is een kloof tussen de realiteit en wat we als echt begrijpen. En fotografie ligt op de grens tussen het echte en onwerkelijke, het ware en het valse. Dus het helpt ons om te 'zien' wat voor ons verborgen is ... Met behulp van fotografie kunnen we misschien niet de grote vragen over tijd, realiteit of ruimte beantwoorden, maar we zijn geïnteresseerd in hoe een fotografisch beeld mensen aan het denken kan zetten over hun eigen realiteit. Bewustzijn is niet alleen een belangrijk onderdeel van het leven; het is het leven zoals we het kennen. Met behulp van fotografie willen we dat de kijkers empathie vergroten en interesse wekken voor hun realiteit.”

Het duo ziet hun foto's als objecten: door hun prints met de hand te maken met behulp van klassieke printmethoden en materialen zoals platina, zilverhalogenide of door nieuwe exemplaren zoals pigmentprints op bladgoud uit te vinden, wordt elke kopie een uniek werk. Al deze inspanningen hebben slechts één doel: de kijker meer parameters geven om mee te spelen dan alleen het beeld, waardoor het letterlijk extra betekenis krijgt.
