My working process is a constant flow of thoughts, a stream of consciousness that keeps going on relentlessly, over which I have little to no control. Events swirl around me, day to day, in my life and they get caught on the paper as frozen moments in time that are bound on the surface by the strokes of the pencil. My role as an artist is to isolate the radiant instants that shine the hardest and investigate what shapes them: the subtlety of the gestures, the sincere postures of the bodies, the harsh background that eats the figures away reaching out from the deepest obscurity.
The pencil is the only technique that allows me to keep the progress of drawing alive and open: it does not control the timeframe of the creation but grants me enough time to dance around the subject and investigate it from each and every angle. Thus, the resulting artworks are not merely drawings but thorough studies of how reality is presented before my eyes, including all those details and portions that change within the timeframe of the process itself.
Drawing from memory also enables a silent transcendence that lets emotion seep through as raw as possible: an interior sensitivity and past experiences make the perfect filter that forge the outlines of the elements in the drawings, so that every detail included is there to better convey an array of emotions. To the viewer, these emotions are direct- but not explicit: they are free to be interpreted and defined within the hypnotic vortex of contrasting shadows and highlights.
