Patrick Olodoodi Tjungurrayi was een gerenommeerde kunstenaar van de Australische First Nations kunst en een gerespecteerde elder binnen de Pintupi- en Kukatja-gemeenschappen. Hij werd geboren in de buurt van Yalangerri, niet ver van Jupiter Well in West-Australië, en bracht zijn jeugd door in de woestijngebieden van de Western Desert. Als jongeman verhuisde hij met zijn familie naar de Balgo Mission, waar hij meewerkte aan de bouw van stenen huizen en de kerk waar hij later trouwde met Miriam Olodoodi.
Tjungurrayi begon begin jaren ’80 met schilderen, geïnspireerd door zijn diepgaande culturele kennis en de tradities van zijn volk. In zijn werk staan vaak verhalen en plaatsen centraal die verband houden met de Tingari-cyclus en de Rainbow Serpent Dreaming (Wanawarra), belangrijke elementen uit zijn culturele erfgoed. Zijn stijl wordt gekenmerkt door een mix van traditionele motieven en levendige kleuren, die de invloeden van zowel de Balgo- als de Pintupi-kunst tradities weerspiegelen.

Tjungurrayi's deelname aan de grote tentoonstelling "Papunya Tula: Genesis and Genius" in de Art Gallery of New South Wales betekende nationale bekendheid. Hij nam deel aan meerdere Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (waaronder inzendingen in
1999, 2001, 2004 en 2007) en exposeerde tussen 1997 en 2010 op grote schaal in Australië en internationaal in Singapore en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. In 2008 ontving Tjungurrayi de eerste Western Australian Indigenous Art Award, een erkenning voor zijn uitzonderlijke talent en bijdrage aan de kunsten. Zijn werk is te vinden in belangrijke Australische instellingen, waaronder de Art Gallery of New South Wales, de Art Gallery of Western Australia en het South Australian Museum.
Naast zijn artistieke prestaties was Tjungurrayi een toegewijd pleitbezorger voor gezondheidszorg in afgelegen inheemse gemeenschappen. Nadat hij tussen 2007 en 2010 aan nierfalen leed, speelde hij een cruciale rol in het vergroten van de bewustwording over de niercrisis die de inheemse Australiërs trof. Zijn inspanningen droegen bij aan de oprichting van dialyseafdelingen in afgelegen gemeenschappen, waardoor patiënten op hun traditionele grondgebied behandeld konden worden.
Patrick Olodoodi Tjungurrayi overleed in december 2017 en liet een erfenis achter die zowel zijn artistieke meesterschap als zijn inzet voor het welzijn van zijn gemeenschap omvat.
