Mounir Raji (1984; NL) is a Dutch-Moroccan photographer, image-maker and researcher. In addition to commercial assignments for clients like Adidas, Atelier Munro, Daily Paper, Elle Magazine, G-Star, Mastoor, Van Moof and Vogue Magazine, he also makes work that has been shown at The Rijksmuseum and Kunstmuseum Den Haag. His first photo book 'Dreamland' was published in 2023, in which he pays tribute to Morocco.
For a period of five years (2017-2022), Raji spent much of his time traveling around Morocco in the areas rarely visited by tourists, inspired by the holidays of his youth. The outcome of this investigation is his first photobook 'Dreamland' (2023) – a deeply personal narrative woven from Raji’s impressions of his motherland. It explores the relationship between the idyllic childhood memories of first and second generation Moroccan immigrants and the cultural impact these have on each passing generation. The exhibition 'Dreamland' at Galerie Caroline O’Breen incorporates archival videos sourced from his family archive, enhancing the sense of personal interpretation of the past that permeates the project.

Through the lens of Dutch photographer Mounir Raji, even an ice cream in a heatwave has a sense of calm. A flat-bottomed cone with its whipped-up vanilla quiff sits on the deck of a Caribbean cruise ship like a well-heeled passenger, poised and un-meltable. It's an example of Raji's ability to find serenity in the simple.
