Painting with the speed of light. About Jus Juchtmans. Paintings by Jus Juchtmans are ponds in which you see yourself reflected. You can drown in it. The light sucks you to the depth, to the undercurrents, the vortexes and everything that resides under the surface, sparkles and vibrates. Nothing to see What can be seen on Juchtmans' canvases? Nothing special really. Stains, stripes, lines, surfaces, shimmer and color. That for all. At low shaving light you can also see traces of trails and scratches, miniscule bubbles, pits sometimes. It is part of it, because nothing is perfect. The paintings do not come from a spray booth. They are not serial work. Every cloth is like a beach that has smoothed the sea with its squeegee, time after time. What is there to see on Juchtmans' paintings? Everything. Through the reflection of the works, the room, the environment, the air, the clouds, the light, the lighting and even the spectator are sucked into the work. Every moment there is something else to see. Juchtmans' works are not dead matter. They live. Inventeur the couleur Works by Juchtmans are just beautiful. Can that be said? They shine and reflect. They are amazed because Juchtmans invented new colors every day in his lab, his studio. They are seduced by their sensuality, but they are not without obligation, coquettish or superficial. They do not just let themselves be consumed, they lure you out of your tent, they invite you to participate. Works by Juchtmans are completely finished, but not closed. They change at any time because they are color and color is vibration, swarm, acceleration. Color has the speed of light. Color breathes. The works of Juchtmans bombard you against light speed. They can not be photographed, as the northern lights can not be photographed. Each photo is a snapshot, one of the millions of manifestations of the work. Every reproduction of a painting by Juchtmans is a betrayal of that work, because it pints it at one time, while it changes at any moment. A cloth by Juchtmans is a chain reaction, a protuberance, a wave, an eternal going and coming of light and color. It is a natural phenomenon. Allotropes Every painting is that? Monet's water lilies, Rothko's ascetic abstract paintings, Richter's photorealism. Yes and no. Juchtmans' work is bombarding you with the highest color intensity in the world. How is that? Because his paintings are essentially installations: many layers of color that come to light through the transparency of the medium. Paintings by Juchtmans function as diamonds. Each layer breaks the light differently. Every kind of light creates new observations. They are allotropes: within their fixed aggregation state they have several physical manifestations. Juchtmans' works are more than just a visual experience. They are a total experience, a happening. In a painting - or rather a pictorial installation by Juchtmans - you are dragged along, you participate, participate, change with the light. You can not do otherwise. That is the power of the work.
