"Quraishi is a visual artist whose work encompasses various mediums: primarily such as analogue photography, photo painting, video, film, immersive media, architectural sculptures and performance installations. Quraishi is characterised by a nomadic existence and divides his time between several cities between Europe and the Middle East. He consciously explores the dynamics of migration." This is what ARTNET Survey list 2017 of the most interesting artists working in Europe wrote. Coming from a mixed background, of South Arabian, Uzbek and Pakistani origins with US and French nationalities, Quraishi’s approach to the world is that of a traveler.
RECENT PROJECT - 2025
Besides ROAMance, his most recent co-creation is a VR Experience with Stanisław Liguziński which just premiered at IDFA : International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, New Media Doclab. Quraishi is currently in the process of finishing his first feature documentary “HOLY MAMA”. It explores the theme of “mamonism”, what mothers do to transform their son into martyr’s, terrorists, soldiers, misogynists, dictators in different religions such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam and he is also integrating Paolo Pasolini’s Sopralluoghi in Palestina (Location hunting film in Israel/Palestine, 1963).
Besides that, Quraishi is in the midst of rehearsing his new co-composition with Eunice Martins, a contemporary music composition, a cantata titled WALLS are Tumbling down, for a chamber orchestra, with Jewish, Arab, Sudanese, Somali & Togo-ian musicians with the Synagogue Choir in Dresden and an expansive multiple channel interactive video-film installation. WALLS… will have its premier in June 2025 at the Stadtmuseum Dresden together with Japanese Palais and the SKD Museums of Dresden.
Quraishi is a regular cultural-political contributor for the German newspaper TAZ, die Tageszeitung and for CounterPunch - an American political online magazine. Starting Fall 2025, Quraishi will be a Research Fellow in the Rural Sociology Group at Wageningen University under the direction of Associate Professor Doctor Joost Jongerden and devising seminars and courses on visual sociology for Doctoral (PhD) students. Starting December 8th 2024, Quraishi will be hosting a monthly radio show called IQ unfiltered on Berlin’s only Left Kunst Radio.
