Ingrid Simons

Ingrid Simons (1976)

Lives in Eindhoven. Works in Eindhoven.

Ingrid Simons (Eindhoven, 1976) lives and works in Eindhoven, The Netherlands Ingrid Simons paints fictional landscapes, sometimes super rugged and material, sometimes subdued and spiritual, but they always function as vehicles for strongly atmospheric associations with phenomena such as earth, light, the cosmos, air and water. Although elements of the landscape such as groves and streams, paths and skies are often more or less recognisable, the work is highly abstract in terms of visual language and the use of colour. Simons sees landscapes as ‘independent expressive spaces, which exist only through the physical act of painting’. By dismantling the landscape she creates a new, rough and physical reality from her personal experience.
