Finnish-born designer and sculptor Jonas Lutz creates objects of bold simplicity, often with a tacit playfulness. His work reveals a continuous search for the novel and undiscovered, simplicity of form balanced with textures that invite touch, and a modesty that speaks of a deep comprehension of materials and a desire to elevate their qualities.
Jonas draws inspiration from Nordic traditions in art and furniture, as well as the vibrant culture of his adopted home, Rotterdam. Raised in a creative milieu, his instinct and sensibility with materials intimates that of a sculptor, an approach echoed in the way he sets himself creative challenges, triggering investigations of materials and concepts often inspired by objects that surround him in his home and studio.
Jonas collaborators include manufacturers E15, Form & Refine, and La Chance, as well as fashion label Isabel Marant. His studio is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He studied at the Carl Malmsten furniture school in Stockholm, Sweden, and holds a bachelor's in design from the Design Academy Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
