Raymond Meeks 1963

Lives in New York. Works in New York.

Raymond Meeks (Columbia, Ohio, 1963) is a photographer who works with what his 'back yard' happens to offers him. He knows how to tell a universally appealing story with what he finds in the immediate vicinity. This does not require long journeys or major social themes. Meeks uses his own surroundings as a metaphor; a place that is familiar to him and with which he has established a certain understanding. Meeks belongs to a new, interesting generation of American photographers who look at the US with fresh eyes and a good eye for its rich history, coupled with the desire to tell stories about society in our current, uncertain times. Meeks prefers to publish his work in artist books. Meeks does everything for these publications which have a very limited edition: from buying the paper, to printing the photos and binding.
