Alban Karsten (1983, The Netherlands) live and works in Amsterdam
lban Karsten uses his anthropological background to enter into collaborations in order to get to know “the other”. He regularly invites professionals from different fields, such as social psychologists, blacksmiths and hypnotists, to participate in an artistic project. With his performances and sculptures, Alban examines what it means to be an expert (or a charlatan?) and how the amateur relates to that.
Currently, he is exploring the history of fences, horse jumping, and contemporary disaster prevention. He lives and works in Amsterdam at Werkgebouw Het Veem, is a member of the artist collective Soft Landings, and was one of the founders of the artist-run space De Gym.
