Tosja van Lieshout (b. 1998) is a rising Dutch painter known for her bold use of color and raw, expressive brushwork. Her work channels the untamed forces of nature—wild, visceral, and emotionally charged—into energetic compositions that radiate vitality. With a deeply intuitive approach, van Lieshout explores themes of youth, identity, and the physicality of painting itself.
She studied at St. Joost School of Art & Design, where she received the St. Joost/AiR Prize upon graduating, and went on to complete a master’s degree at Academie Minerva in Groningen. In 2021, she was artist-in-residence at the Van GoghHuis in Zundert, where she engaged with landscape and painterly gesture in dialogue with Van Gogh’s legacy. Her work was included in the Groninger Museum’s "Hoe Van Gogh naar Groningen kwam", where it stood out for its vibrant contemporary take on the Dutch landscape tradition.
Now based in Antwerp, van Lieshout continues to develop a practice rooted in spontaneity and material exploration. With a fearless visual language and a growing presence on the European art scene, Tosja van Lieshout is quickly becoming a name to watch.
