Pietertje van Splunter (Goedereede, 1968) is an artist who explores the potential of color through a variety of media, including paintings, videos and spatial installations. Her work moves at the intersection of abstraction and representation, combining elements of conceptualism with the tradition of painting.
In recent years, she has focused primarily on paintings, using color systems such as the color wheel and swatches as a starting point for her vibrant, sometimes minimalist compositions. Through a succession of hues and subtly changing shapes, she creates a visual language that is both universally recognizable and personally charged.
In addition to her solo practice, Van Splunter regularly collaborates with artist Zeger Reyers. Since 2004, under the name Broos, they have been realizing joint art projects in public space, separate from their individual work.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Venice Biennale (2015), and in countries such as Poland, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, South Korea and the United States. She studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and is co-founder and exhibition organizer at Quartair Contemporary Art Initiatives. Van Splunter lives and works with her family in The Hague.
