-Searching for a “calming point”-
During my training in the Monumental Arts department, I developed a great fascination for “the landscape” as a theme. The fact that I live in the Scheldt Valley was not unrelated to this.
It was not only the beauty, balance and tranquillity that attracted me, but above all the emotional effect of these elements. Initially, I found the presence of nature to be essential as a guiding principle for my work and immersed myself in technique, but over the years the “influence” that nature had on me became much more important.
The “legibility” disappeared and, through various layers and phases, I eliminated everything that was not essential, allowing lines and planes to emerge until I reached a point that was calming and, through its simplicity, offered space for interpretation and a search for a moment of contemplation, as a comfort, an escape from the chaos of the world; not an answer, but a brief pause in a world of “gentle silence”.
I hope that when you view my work, you can experience tranquility, that you can see and experience the depth beneath the apparent simplicity.
