The guiding thread is my love for drawing, for paper and what can be done with it, and the search for different ways of telling and visualizing stories. What defines me are stories about decay, destruction, and war. Illness and death have accompanied me all my life. War as well, though it was an unknown shadow, one I could only recognize after my father’s death. My father was one of the 52,000 forced laborers who, during the Rotterdam raid of November 10, 1944, was deported to Germany.
