Artist statement
Simnikiwe Buhlungu (b. 1995) is an artist from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Interested in knowledge production, how it is produced and disseminated—and by whom—Buhlungu uses film, sound, and text to explore socio-historical phenomena and their nuances as part of a wider ecology. In her practice, she wrestles between the questions and inexhaustible potential answers of these narratives.
Lately, she enjoys listening to gospel music and has been thinking about apiaries.
