Peter Bastiaanssen studied at the St. Joost Academy in Breda, where he completed his training in 1987. He then stayed in Barcelona for a year, after which he retired
settled in Rotterdam. The most recognizable image in Bastiaanssen's work is a
black dog. This wooden animal with beady eyes played a central role in the project
Art is a Dog by Peter Bastiaanssen.
In this project, which grew into an almost existential act, the artist mainly focused
against dogmas and communication systems within Western society and specifically
within the art world. In this project, Peter Bastiaanssen questioned art
you have to think about it endlessly without discovering any visual quality.
