Levi Malfait (°1990, Deinze, Belgium) is an artist who mainly works with drawing and photography. By using an ever-growing archive of found documents and original photos to create autonomous artworks, Malfait considers making art a craft, which is executed using formal rules but which always refers to social reality.
By focusing on techniques and materials, he reflects on the closely related subjects of archive and memory. This often results in an examination of both the human need for ‘conclusive’ or ‘completed’ stories and the question whether anecdotes ‘fictionalise’ history.
