Armando was one of the most important post-war artists in Europe. Armando grew up as a boy near the concentration camp in Amersfoort. He saw how the camp was built and how people were brought in every day. These impressions aroused his interest in the war, a source of inspiration that never left him as a writer and visual artist.
For decades he worked on his very personal and versatile visual and literary oeuvre. His handwriting is expressive, his paintings are pasty and his sculptures are constructed with great force. In addition to being a visual artist and writer, the artist became known as a poet, violinist, actor, journalist and film, television and theater maker.
