Susanne Khalil Yusef (1984) makes immersive colorful installations by combining a wide range of media such as murals, ceramics, textiles and sculptures. At first glance Yusef’s brightly colored work seems lighthearted and playful but if you look closer, it refers to distress and dangerous situations. In her work she raises critical questions about themes such as homeland and displacement, identity and socio-geographic power relations. The stories in her work are closely related to her own biography – such as the conflicts in her home country Palestine, migratory flows, autonomy, Orientalism, exile, and colonial situations.
Khalil Yusef's work has been published in various publications, such as Museumtijdschrift, Metropolis M and Mister Motley. Khalil Yusef has previously exhibited in various museums, including Museum Valkenhof and FOAM. The work of Khalil Yusef is included in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Arnhem, the Dutch Textile Museum in Tilburg, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam and the Province of Gelderland.
