About Bildhalle
Bildhalle is a gallery dedicated to classic and contemporary photography and photo-based art. The gallery represents a highly curated selection of artists from around the world with a strong focus on photography of the second half of the 20th century and contemporary artistic positions of the 21st century. In addition to showcasing internationally established artists, Bildhalle’s ambitious program provides space for innovative young and upcoming artists who are pushing the boundaries of the medium of photography, creating a crossover to photo-based art and introducing new initiatives to the discourse.
Founded in 2013 by Mirjam Cavegn in Zurich, Bildhalle has rapidly become one of the most respected galleries for photography in Switzerland and throughout Europe; it has consolidated its strong position in the European market, having opened a gallery space in the Museum Quarter of Amsterdam in 2020. In 2023, Bildhalle opened another space in Zurich – Bildhalle Showroom. The spacious two-storey venue is dedicated to iconic and previously undisplayed works from the Bildhalle portfolio and brings more dynamism and flexibility to exhibition activities. In addition to up to 12 solo and group shows a year, the gallery participates in international art fairs, such as Paris Photo, Photo London, Art Rotterdam, Photofairs New York, Aipad New York and Unseen Amsterdam.
Bildhalle has placed work in numerous important private and public collections, maintains long-standing partnerships with estates and partner galleries and is a member of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD). The gallery offers art consulting for private individuals and institutions and works with internationally renowned curators and authors.
Another cornerstone of the gallery is the publishing house "Edition Bildhalle", which conceives and produces high-quality photo books inspired by the ideas and works of the gallery’s artists and in collaboration with authors, art historians and journalists. The books are available internationally in museum shops, independent bookstores, online and in the gallery.
