Jan Bokma is a Dutch sculptor, whose work stems from an interest in philosophical materialism: "I see life as a collection of processes where one material transforms into another. The idea is that you can see the true face of life if you look at it purely from matter.” Bokma's work is fundamental: it focuses on the basics, yet it's also quirky and playful. His solo show ‘Light for Cows’ for example, mimicked a livestock barn, playing with the intersection between artistic Minimalism and farming.
Bokma’s practice is an ongoing reflection on a set of variables determining value and meaning in art, such as material, production, and art history.
