Michiel Kluiters beweegt zich op het snijvlak van fotografie, schilderkunst en sculptuur. In zijn atelier bouwt hij intuïtief geconstrueerde architectonische modellen die hij vervolgens in extreem scherpe, monumentale fotografie vastlegt. Wat verschijnt zijn ruimtes die tegelijk tastbaar en ongrijpbaar zijn: herkenbare architectonische elementen worden losgemaakt van hun oorspronkelijke schaal en werkelijkheid.
Licht, schaduw, kleur, textuur en perspectief creëren een ruimtelijke illusie waarin aanwezigheid en afwezigheid voortdurend verschuiven. De lege ruimtes van Kluiters zijn geen lege plekken, maar geladen omgevingen die herinneren aan onafgemaakte utopieën, ruïnes of ruimtes die nog moeten ontstaan. Door de fysieke constructie niet zelf te tonen, maar uitsluitend het fotografische beeld ervan, speelt hij met de grens tussen werkelijkheid en fictie.

Market position
Michiel Kluiters lives and works in Amsterdam and belongs to a generation of Dutch artists who have redefined photography through a sculptural and spatial approach. Educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and further developing his practice at De Ateliers in Amsterdam, he has established a distinctive body of work in which photography, architecture, painting and sculpture converge.
His monumental photographic works occupy the space between the physical and the imagined. Alongside his autonomous practice, Kluiters has realised site-specific installations and public commissions, often responding to the architecture, history and function of a particular location. His work has been presented internationally in exhibitions, public space and institutional contexts.
Kluiters’ work is held in public and private collections, including Collectie Rein van der Lugt, AKKUH Hengelo, KVDL Kunstcollectie, CTSV Kunstcollectie and Art Zaanstad. He has also undertaken commissions for institutions including the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf, the State of the Netherlands, the Fries Museum, the Municipality of Utrecht, the Municipality of Amsterdam, the Municipality of Zoetermeer and the Province of North Holland.
