Dead parrots and flying hammers' brings the work of Joost Pauwaert and Guy Slabbinck together in Bruthausgallery. For this exhibition, the duo decided to join forces and make a work together in addition to presenting their own works.
Joost Pauwaert makes sculptural work and moving installations that stage violence and danger. However, he succeeds in disguising these works with beauty and mystery in a balanced way. The game of attraction and repulsion makes the spectator wonder. What is it that hypnotises us so? How seductive is destruction? How irresistible are the destructive movements?
Guy Slabbinck mainly produces large-format paintings that overwhelm with their richness of colour, texture and motifs. He places mythological or magical figures in exotic landscapes that radiate both paradise and menace. Here and there, the artist himself appears in the works, an expression of the dialogue that Slabbinck constantly enters into with art history.
