Glass artist Bert Frijns (1953, NL) studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, in both the glass and sculpture department from 1973 to 1980. Glass, water, light and movement are the most important elements in Bert Frijns’ work. The glass shapes look simple, but the process to arrive at these shapes is long and labour-intensive. He works with flat glass panels, which he can process into objects in all kinds of shapes using a technique he developed himself. Due to the material, clarity and reflection, the glass sculptures interact with their surroundings. Once the glass sculpture is filled with water, it captures and enhances the interplay of light and movement, which appears compelling and meditative.
