Prudencio Irazabal (1954, Spain) is known for the distinct technique he uses to create his abstract paintings in acrylic, in which a large number of translucent layers are superimposed and finished with a polished mirror surface. The relationship between surface and depth is vital for understanding his abstract images. Color, mediated by the light that works through the wafer-thin layers, gives a unique perceptive experience. The merged translucent layers determine the incidence of light, but at the same time allow the viewer to see through to the white canvas that forms the basis of the work. Irazabal has exhibited worldwide and his work is in the collection of AkzoNobel Art Foundation, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Fundación Helga de Alvear, and many unnamed.
