BorzoGallery at Art Rotterdam 2020
This year at Art Rotterdam Ronald de Bloeme (*1971), living in Berlin and alumnus of the Willem de Kooning Academy, and Jurriaan Molenaar (*1968), alumnus of the Rijksakademie, will show work that is at the heart of current events.
De Bloeme will show a monumental painting that marked the starting point in 2004 for all his later work in which he focuses on the reliability of our perception of reality. Since then, his sources have mainly consisted of, among other things, packaging materials, manuals, logos and metro maps, but recently he has shifted his attention to the influence that Google has on our perception. New work from this project shows how Google's algorithms literally give color to our view of the world.
Molenaar is primarily known for his architectural paintings in which there is no trace of human presence. In his new work, however, he breaks with that constant by leaving human traces in his worlds in the form of graffiti. The tags, Throw Ups and pieces give the viewer a sign of recognition in the often elusive architectural environments that Molenaar creates.
The connection with established artists is made with a never before shown, large sculpture from the late 80s by Carel Visser (1928-2015) and an installation by Marinus Boezem (*1934).
