Gerhard Hofland is proud to present the exhibition Animated by Dutch artist Henk Stallinga. This is the second solo-exhibition by Stallinga in the gallery, following Levity (2016).
The art of Henk Stallinga is characterised by his large multimedia installations in which the artist treats industrial design as his medium. Stallinga formidably combines natural elements and recognisable (consumer) objects in order to overwhelm his audience with effects that usually escape our attention in daily life. While the artist previously took light and time as the subjects of his installations, Animated shows the installation Fanscreen (2016-2018); a screen that addresses the notion of transparency of light and motion, and that renders the essence of film and animation both visible and tangible in a unique way.
Henk Stallinga (1962, NL) lives and works in Amsterdam. He graduated in 1993 from the Rietveld Academy after which he opened Studio Stallinga. Work by Stallinga is part of several international and public collections such as the MoMA, New York, SFMoMA, San Francisco (both US), the Louisiana Museum, Copenhagen (DK) and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. This year installations by Stallinga will on view at Awakenings Festival and Kunsthal KAdE, Amersfoort, and late 2019 the entire oeuvre of Stallinga will be shown during a traveling exhibition in Japan.
