On Sunday, October 18, starting at 2:00 p.m. (until around 5:00 p.m.), Kyara van Meel and Katrien Vogel will be at the gallery demonstrating how their work is created. Kyara will be working on a life-size drawing on the wall, while Katrien will have her materials laid out on the table. Take this opportunity not only to look, but also to talk with the artists about their work. It’s a cozy atmosphere with a drink—that really gets the conversation flowing!
My decision to combine Kyara van Meel’s paintings with Katrien Vogel’s objects stems from their shared fascination with organic forms.
In Kyara van Meel’s oil paintings, micro- and macro-worlds intertwine to form an enchanting whole. Plants, fruits, and romantic landscapes are at the heart of her inspiration. She plays with light and shadow to make the tension of growth and the vastness of space palpable, as in a timeless romantic landscape.
For Katrien Vogel, the monumental structure of a centuries-old church holds the same significance as a swallow’s nest, hidden beneath the roof tiles. These natural structures are at once light and strong, fragile and powerful—just like paper. Here, growth processes emerge—fragile yet resilient—that constantly reshape life.
Together, their work reveals the magic of change and development, the power of what grows and flourishes, both large and small.
